Fireworks fundraiser brings in $400
In just four hours, a fundraiser to fill a fireman's boot with donations for the annual Onset-Wareham fireworks brought in approximately $400.
"We want to thank people for their generosity today, especially in this economy," said Jackie Lindsey, member of the Onset-Wareham Fireworks Committee, which is working to raise the approximately $20,000 needed to put on the show.
The fundraiser featured an eye-catching antique fire truck -- a 1932 Maxim Pumper -- parked between Walmart and Stop & Shop in East Wareham. The truck is owned by Howard Smith, husband of Town Moderator Claire Smith, who serves as a member of the Fireworks Committee.
This year's fireworks show is scheduled for Saturday, July 7, at dusk. July 14 is the rain date.
The work continues!
A fundraiser will be held at Mezza Luna Restaurant, located at 253 Main Street in Buzzards Bay, on June 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature complimentary hors d'oeuvres, a 50/50 raffles, and an auction. A donation of $10 is suggested.
If you would like to donate to the fireworks display via mail, checks can be made out to “Town of Wareham Fireworks Fund” and mailed to P.O. Box 799, Onset, MA 02558.
