First 4th grader completes 'The BIG Sha-Bang,' is inducted into Minot Forest Elementary's Multiplication Hall of Fame
Minot Forest Elementary 4th grader Mikal Gibbs was speechless after completing "The BIG Sha-Bang."
On Thursday, Dec. 6, Gibbs completed a memory test, and recalled all of the multiplication tables through the 12s — what teachers are calling "The BIG Sha-Bang!"
It was an epic display, and for his performance, Gibbs became the first student inducted into the school's Multiplication Hall of Fame.
After completing the task with teacher Lisa Antonellis, Gibbs got a certificate, had his picture taken, and returned to his regular classroom, where he was met with cheers.
"Good job, Mikal!" a fellow student yelled.
Then, he had to make the big phone call… to his dad.
As his classmates cheered, Gibbs, with a big smile on his face, said quietly into the phone: "I made 'The BIG Sha-Bang,' Dad."
All 4th grade students will get the celebrity treatment — including the phone call to a loved one to share the big news — once they complete "The BIG Sha-Bang!"
"I wanted to have community involvement," said Antonellis, who organized the program to help students memorize their multiplication tables. "It takes us, the parents, and the students to make it all work."
Mikal is the son of Lance and Sharon Gibbs.
