A foggy Kayak Poker Run in Onset
Nearly two dozen people braved fog and on and off rain for a marine poker game via kayak on Saturday.
"Great weather! Eighty degrees and sunny!" organizer Patrick Marshall joked in addressing participants of the Onset Bay Association's annual Kayak Poker Run.
The poker run kicked off from Shell Point in Onset and took participants through Sunset Cove and Onset Beach to pick up cards in competition for the best poker hand.
Despite early morning thunderstorms and rain at the 10 a.m. launch of the contest, the participants stayed relatively dry (at least because of the weather) throughout the competition.
Onset Bay Association President Eleanor Martin was understandably hoping for better weather, but was appreciative of the people who hit the water. The event raises funding for the association's many summer events.
Martin thanked John McDonald for operating a motorized boats to help any participants in distress, as well as Roy Edwards of Nemasket Kayak, who sponsored this year's event.
Edwards recently opened a kayak rental service on Onset Beach and was able to offer kayaks to Kayak Poker Run participants this year.
