Football makes a special play for Womenade

Sep 23, 2010

The entire Wareham Viking football team will be collecting funds for Womenade of Wareham (W.O.W.) on Saturday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

W.O.W. fills the gaps that other charities can't reach by paying for things like electricity and repair bills and helping cover medical costs. You will be able to support W.O.W. by donating loose change and small bills to the Vikings.

The players will be around the town of Wareham donning their Vikings jersey at various banks, grocery stores, and convenience stores holding cans for monetary donations.

Mary Labonte, General Manager of Lindsey's Restaurant and member of W.O.W. originally enlisted eight of her employees, who happen to be on the Wareham Vikings football team, to raise funds for the local charity.

Those eight players turned to ninety players after Labonte spoke to Vikings coach, Dan Nault. "He encouraged all of his players to be involved in helping the community," Labonte said of Coach Nault and the team. "Now we have all ninety Vikings helping W.O.W. and the people of Wareham."
