Fore! For the Friends library fundraiser a success

Feb 22, 2011

To the Editor:

Fore! for the Friends, a fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of the Wareham Free Library and A.D. Makepeace, was a great success thanks to the many volunteers, the business sponsors, and the library staff.

More than 200 golfers took the challenge of playing 18 holes through the stacks, reading areas, children's room, and lobby. Red Robin was on hand as well as a roving statue of liberty and Warehan's own Viking to the delight of many young and old.

Players left with a variety of "goodies" provided by the sponsors, from restaurant coupons to key chains, pens, cups, bags of Craisins and pins. Obstacles and decorations on each hole provided by the hole sponsors made the experience great fun as golfers avoided items such as stuffed animals, baseball and viking helmets, and a wheelchair. Quite a few golfers made a hole-in-one through a challenging green with a mini-mountain and a series of heating pipes!

After a tough day on the links, golfers relaxed at the 19th hole (the library meeting room) for some good food, face painting, and a raffle which included gift certificates from restaurants, salons, and tanning parlors, and gifts and gift baskets from local businesses and artists. Frankenstein's Hot Dogs and More offered their delicious hot dogs, chips, and drinks while the Friends sold cookies and popcorn.

The Friends of the Wareham Free Library, and their corporate partner A.D. Makepeace Company, are the main sponsors for the fundraiser. But plenty of local businesses joined in to make this fun community event the place to be. Please support these business sponsors!

Hole Sponsors: Tihonet Village Market, Rosebrook Business Park, Community Mini-Storage, Wareham Week, Robertson's GMC Trucks, Wareham Gatemen, Wareham Library Foundation, Drs. Howard and Gleason, Little Harbor Country Club, Wareham Pediatrics, and Lindsey's Family Restaurant.

Half-Hole (Green or Tee) Sponsors: Shirt Shack, Sullivan Wine and Spirits, Barrett's Heating and Appliance, Facchetti and Facchetti, Ltd. The Gateway Tavern, Hollis Insurance Company, Narrows Crossing Restaurant, Bladez Hair Salon, Wareham Feed, Morse Lumber, The Matrix Salon, Liberty Tax Service, Coastal Orthodontics, and Red Robin Restaurant, Cranberry Grower's Service and Bayside Agricultural, Inc. sponsored the 19th hole. Dunkin' Donuts sponsored the practice tee.

The Friends of the WFL and A.D. Makepeace wish to thank everyone who helped with the planning and the execution of this wonderful fundraiser with a special thanks to the business sponsors who supported us and the many people who came out on a cold day to play a round. An extra thank you to Wareham Week for providing this forum and for sponsoring a hole!!
