Francis C. Irish, 70

Dec 21, 2012

Francis C. Irish, 70, of Wareham, died Dec. 19, at Tobey Hospital. He was the devoted loving husband of Louise M. (McCauley) Irish, who passed away a couple months earlier on Sept. 27, 2012.

Born in Boston and raised in Weymouth, he was the son of the late William E. and Mary (Heffernan) Irish. He moved his own family from Quincy to Wareham in 1971. Mr. Irish was a sheet metal worker for General Dynamics, who worked at the Quincy shipyard for more than 20 years until its closure in 1986.

Mr. Irish was veteran of the U.S. Army, who served as a mechanic with the 708th Ordnance Battalion in Baumholder, Germany from 1960 to 1964.

“Fran” or “Franny” was loved by his family and adored by his grandchildren, known to them as "Papa." He was quick to make us smile and laugh with his silly antics. He knew how to make light even in the worst of situations, and for that he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his son, Timothy M. Irish and his wife, Anne-Marie, of Attleboro; two daughters, Julie A. Jenkins and her husband, Gerald, of Wareham and Shannon M. Rose and her husband, Bruce, of Wareham; his brother, Richard Irish of Ohio; his grandchildren, Bryant Irish, Kailyn Irish, Joshua Jenkins and Kailee Rose. He was predeceased by his brothers, William and Eugene Irish.

Services were held Monday.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472. For online guestbook visit: www.ccgfuneralhome.com.
