Free financial aid workshops to be held for future college students
A series of free walk-in workshops will be held at the Wareham High School Library and the Boys & Girls Club of Wareham to assist parents and students with completing financial aid forms for their upcoming college careers.
The workshops will provide individual application assistance and help to demystify the college financial aid process.
The workshop schedule is as follows:
- Wareham High School - Thursday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on January 15 and 29, February 12 and 26, March 12 and 26, April 9 and 23.
- Boys & Girls Club of Wareham - Monday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on January 26, February 23, March 23, April 13 and 27.
Individual appointments may also be scheduled.
The workshops will help all college bound seniors, as well as anyone considering college, who must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the first step to determining how much and what type of financial aid a student may qualify to receive. The PELL grant, subsidized and unsubsidized loans, and some scholarships require that a FAFSA be filed.
Attendees are advised to bring parents’ and student’s 2013 tax forms, if 2014 taxes have not yet been filed. Many high school students will be filing as dependent students, however, so please call ahead for questions on dependency and to determine if other documents are required.
Workshops and individual appointments are conducted by Barbara Sullivan and Tracey Rezendes, Educational Advisors with the Educational Opportunity Center a Massachusetts Education and Career Opportunities, Inc. program in Partnership with Seven Hills Behavioral Health, Inc.
