Free lunch, breakfast program for kids launches June 20

Jun 20, 2016

The USDA’s Summer Food Service Program will serve up meals to any Wareham child 18 and younger starting June 20.

The program has provided meals for children in low-income communities for many years.

Wareham Public Schools Food Service Director Rob Shaheen said it gives kids an opportunity to enjoy free, nutritious meals year round.

“Our goal is to get as many meals out to children as possible,” said Shaheen. “During school, breakfast and lunch might be the only meals kids get during the day. We want to continue feeding them throughout the summer.”

New this year, Shaheen said locations have been added around town to make it easier for families to use the program.

The program is available to all children under 18. There is no need to sign up. Meals will be served at the following locations and times Monday through Friday now until Aug. 19:

1 Union St., noon to 1 p.m.

Depot Crossing, 125 Minot Ave, 8 to 9 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m.

Gleason Family YMCA, noon to 1 p.m.

Wareham Free Library, noon to 1 p.m.

Woods of Wareham, 36 Swifts Beach Road, 8 to 9 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m.
