Fugitive wanted in Wareham stabbing caught in North Carolina
A Rhode Island wanted for stabbing his girlfriend during a March 6 argument at the 815 Main Street apartment complex was captured in North Carolina on March 9.
A warrant was issued for Frank Vallagran, 27, of 227 Sackett Street in Providence, R.I. after his girlfriend reported that he stabbed her in the abdomen during an argument, according to police. The victim has been released from a Boston hospital, where she was transported via medical helicopter following the incident.
Vallagran left the apartment complex in a vehicle and was stopped by a Wareham Police officer while attempting to enter Route 195 westbound from Route 28, police said. After a conversation with an officer, Vallagran abruptly sped off.
Wareham Police and State Police pursued the vehicle. New Bedford police became involved after the suspect fled from the car in the area of the Route 18 exit, police said.
Vallagran has been charged with attempted murder, assault & battery by means of a dangerous weapon (knife), along with various motor vehicle offenses, according to police.
Vallagran remained at-large until a joint investigation of Wareham Police detectives and the Rhode Island State Police Fugitive Task Force revealed that Vallagran had boarded a train headed for Raleigh, North Carolina.
Police officers in Raleigh arrested Vallagran without incident as he exited an Amtrak train at approximately 9:15 p.m. on March 9, according to police.
Police are currently arranging to have Vallagran extradited to Massachusetts.
