Fundraising begins for Onset Village fireworks
The Wareham Fireworks Committee has kicked off fundraising efforts for the annual Fireworks in Onset Village event in conjunction with the 2nd Annual Fireworks Art Contest.
The committee must raise $20,000 to put on the fireworks display, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 3. It is a collaboration of the Town of Wareham, Onset Bay Association, Wareham Village Association, and Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce.
"This is an extraordinary event that brings in people from all over the region and state," said Mary Lou Payton, president of the Onset Bay Association and co-chair of the Fireworks Committee.
Children ages 6 to 14 are invited to submit artwork reflective of bright and blazing fireworks for the art contest. The design will be printed on hats and t-shirts. It should be 11 x 17 inches and drawn on paper or canvas using oil, acrylic, or watercolor paints or markers. Dark vibrant colors are encouraged, as light colors and pastels do not copy well. The contest runs until May 5.
Donations for the Fireworks in Onset Village can be sent to the Town of Wareham Fireworks Fund, Treasurer/Collectors Office, 54 Marion Road, Wareham, Mass., 02571.
Artwork for the t-shirt design can be dropped off at the Onset Bay Association, 4 Union Ave., Onset, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on weekdays. Call 508-295-7072 or 508-295-7870 for more information.
