Gatemen fill roster spots as Opening Day approaches
With less than a month until Opening Day in Wareham, the Gatemen recently announced some new additions as well as some familiar faces to its roster.
The most talented in the pack of newcomers is Matt Krook, a sophomore from the University of Oregon.
Krook was drafted in the first round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Miami Marlins and was having a stellar freshman year until it was cut short by injury.
After missing a season due to surgery he hopes to regain his old form in Wareham.
Joining Krook on the pitching staff will be the 2014 Collegiate Baseball and MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year, Zach Plesac of Ball State as well as Ian Hamilton of Washington State, a freshman All-American last year.
Returning for the Gatemen are star position players such as second baseman Kramer Robertson, outfielder Charlie Warren and catcher Andrew Knizner
Gatemen players report to Wareham on June 1 before the season starts on Tuesday, June 9 against Brewster. The home opener for the Gatemen is scheduled for Thursday, June 11 against Hyannis.
An added bonus for residents is that this year the Cape Cod Baseball League all-star game will be held at Spillane Field in Wareham.
The all-star game, which is sure to be full of future Major League Baseball stars, is scheduled for July 25.
