Gatemen just three points out of final playoff spot after two straight wins
After two losses to Falmouth (5-3) and Harwich (4-2) last Thursday and Friday, the Wareham Gatemen have started an unbeaten streak that lasted the course of three games.
The streak started with a 3-3 tie against Bourne on Saturday, and then continued with a 2-1 win at Falmouth on Sunday and a walk-off, 3-2 win against Orleans Monday night.
The victory against the Commodores Sunday stopped a six-game streak without a win.
In that game, starter Jake Kalish went 7.1 innings while only giving up one run and seven hits with five strikeouts. Centerfield Jake Little provided most of the offense for the Gatemen, going 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, and RBI, and two runs. Right-fielder Corey Ray drove in the other run for the Gatemen.
Head Coach Cooper Farris commended the pitching-job by Kalish.
“I can’t say how good of a job he did,” Farris said. “He was real poised and polished. He didn’t lose his composure at all today, so it was really big for us. We needed that there.”
The win over Orleans was another tight one, as catcher Chris Chinea drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The win was Wareham’s first walk-off since the last game of the 2012 season.
That win left Wareham (11-22-1) just three points behind Hyannis for the last playoff spot in the Western Division.
