George W. Nelson, Jr., 89
George W. Nelson, Jr., 89, of Wareham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, April 1, 2013 while in Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor.
He was born in Boston to George W. and Esther T. (Stenberg) Nelson, Sr. He grew up and graduated from Braintree High School, where he met his wife, Ruth A. (Watts) Nelson. After the war, they moved to Wareham.
He was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving his beloved country on the U.S.S. Conklin, a destroyer escort in the South Pacific.
George taught auto body repair at Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston until he retired. He was a lover of the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going on rides in the country, and watching the ships go through the canal.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth A. (Watts) Nelson; his son, Forrest E. Nelson; and his parents, George W. and Esther T. (Stenberg) Nelson. He leaves behind two sons, George W. Nelson, III of Crestview, FL, and daughter in-law Bennye, and Mark R. Nelson of Wareham; a daughter, Leslie R. Hinrichs and son-in-law, Kurt, of Abbot Village, ME; a brother, John R. Nelson of Wareham; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren, and a legacy of love and laughter.
His graveside service will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, April 19, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
