Gerald A. Fernandes, Sr., 72, of West Wareham, died Saturday, Dec. 5 at his son’s home in West Wareham after a long illness. He was the husband of Mary G. (Vasconcelos) Fernandes.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Manuel G. & Eleanor (Amado) Fernandes. A graduate of Wareham High School, Mr. Fernandes was a heavy equipment operator for I.U.O.E Local # 4.

Survivors include his wife; his son, Pastor Gerald Fernandes, Jr., of West Wareham; his daughters, Kelly Sinclair, of Boston, and Hope Fernandes, of West Wareham; his brothers, Manuel Fernandes, of Marietta, Georgia, Daniel Fernandes, of New Bedford, Robert Fernandes, of Onset, and George Fernandes, of Wareham; his sisters, Loretta Merritt, of Bourne, and Valerie Moore, of Marietta, Georgia; eight grandchildren and one great grandson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 8 PM. Interment will be private.
