Girl Scouts to trick-or-treat for non-perishables this weekend

Oct 19, 2011

This Saturday, October 22, Wareham Girl Scouts will be conducting the 4th annual Trick-or-Treat So Others Can Eat event.

Troops clad in Halloween costumes will be "trick-or-treating" for non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Onset Fire Department Box 5 Association's annual food baskets. The baskets are distributed to families in need during the holiday season. Any remaining items collected will be donated to a local food pantry or soup kitchen.

Notices have been distributed to households in the neighborhoods in which troops will be collecting.

In the event that citizens will not be home on the day of the event, the homes which received a notice may drop donations near mailboxes, on the front porch, or in any visible location for pick-up.

The Wareham Girl Scouts Service Unit has been organized for the past four years. Wareham is home to approximately 20 troops consisting of Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, and Seniors. Throughout the year, the Scouts do community service projects and sell Girl Scout Cookies.

The rain date for "Trick-or-Treat So Others Can Eat" is Sunday, October 23.
