The annual Grumpy’s 5k Cranberry Harvest Race will be held on Nov. 3 at the A.D. Makepeace Company headquarters in Tihonet Village.

The annual family event honors the memory of Robert “Grumpy” Conway, a longtime A.D. Makepeace Company employee and nature-lover who passed away in 2010. During his time with A.D. Makepeace, Grumpy took photos of birds, animals, endangered plants and everything else that one would find around cranberry bogs. He used his photography as a way to teach bog owners, conservation groups and the public the importance of protecting that which is important to the environment.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Cranberry Educational Foundation’s Scholarship Fund. Scholarships in this fund are given to local students who are either graduating from area high schools or students currently in college with preference given to those who major in the fields of agriculture or the environment. The Foundation also supports other educational endeavors such as the STEAM bog project at Wareham Middle School.
