Letter to the Editor: Happy 100th Emily

Aug 14, 2025

Emily Baptiste was the guest of honor at the Rosebrook Event Center on Sunday, August 10, 2025, celebrating a remarkable milestone, turning 100 years old, surrounded by generations of family, relatives, and close friends.

Emily was born in Wareham and attended Wareham Schools. After leaving school, she worked for a short period at Aerovox, New Bedford, and General Dynamics, Quincy, before landing at Tobey Hospital.

Most will remember her from the Lab and as the EKG technician. She retired from Tobey after nearly forty years of service, returning later as a volunteer before retiring full-time.

She now spends her retirement days at Cromesett Woods, with her many friends attending Bingo, parties, and mostly socializing with other residents. Emily loves puzzles, TV game shows, old sitcoms, and Hallmark movies.

The celebration at Rosebrook began with a special blessing by Deacon David Murphy, a DJ played tunes from the 70s, a photobooth, captured photos and messages from guests, creating lasting memories for Emily, and a photographer shot individual and group photos. She could be seen circulating and interacting with family and friends, some of whom she had not seen for years.

She received many cards, gifts, and a citation from Maura Healey, the Governor of Massachusetts in recognition of her centennial birthday.

As you glanced around the room, you could see people laughing, talking, sharing a meal, and dancing at different times during the afternoon.

She commented that it felt good to see all the people who attended to celebrate with her. Sunday, August 10th was a day that she will forever hold dear to her heart.

Warmest wishes to Emily on this incredible occasion, celebrating not just a century of life but a legacy of love, wisdom, and strength that will continue to be an inspiration for generations to come.
