Hard work pays off for Wareham High School softball team

May 29, 2024

A season of hard work from the girls of the Wareham High School softball team has resulted in a 16-4 record for the team going into the post-season, as well as in four All-Star shout-outs for the team’s players.

It has been “a great season for our girls,” said Head Coach Rudy Cadena. “They worked hard and they deserved it.”

Cadena said the team’s pitching and catching has been its strength this season — “That’s where our most experience is,” he said.

However, while other areas of the field may lack experience, they are not lacking in skill.

Freshman outfielder Jossalyn Anctil is one of four players chosen for the Mayflower Conference All-Star Team. The other three are Sophomore pitcher Jolee Anderson, Sophomore third-baseman Olivia Lacava and Senior catcher Madison Nereu.

While the regular season has finished, the team is carrying on the game-at-a-time philosophy that carried it to this point.

“We’re excited about seeing who we’re going to play,” said Cadena. While the brackets have not been posted as of presstime, Cadena believes the team will be playing a host game.

“It will be a good challenge for us, the state tournament,” he said.
