Hazardous Waste Day scheduled in August

The town will host its Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Wareham Department of Public Works building, 95 Charge Pond Rd.
Wareham and Carver residents are welcome to come. Participants are asked to stay in their cars, and a valid transfer station sticker must be presented to participate in the event.
The event will accept: acids, aerosol cans, ammonia & bowl cleaners, bleach, brush cleaners, bug killers, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizers, fire extinguishers, flammable liquids/solvents, herbicides, household cleaners & solvents, over the counter medicines, oven cleaners, lead based, oil based and latex paints, paint thinner, stains, varnishes, swimming pool chemicals, waxes, weed killer, batteries, anti-freeze, motor oil (20 gallon limit), propane, spent gasoline, and products containing mercury (thermometers, thermostats, float switches) , etc. Note that all containers, gas cans, boxes, baskets, etc. must be left at site.
The event will not accept commercial or industrial hazardous waste, sharps, syringes, fluorescent bulbs or tubes, tires, PCDs, medical waste, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, biological materials, radioactive materials and asbestos.
