Herbert E. Voss, Sr., 90, of Swifts Beach, real estate broker
Herbert E. Voss, Sr., 90, of Swifts Beach, Wareham, died Friday, November 11 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband of Elizabeth P. (Matheson) Voss. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August.
Born in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late William R. & Olive M. (Curtis) Voss. A previous resident of New Bedford, he was a longtime resident of Wareham.
Mr. Voss worked for many years with his family at Voss City, a well known vacation spot at Swifts Beach. He also owned and operated the Beach Mart and Herbert Voss Real Estate in Swifts Beach for nearly 60 years.
Mr. Voss was a member of the Swifts Beach Improvement Association and Social Harmony Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Wareham. He enjoyed puzzles, traveling, the Red Sox, the Patriots, and playing his favorite card game, “Skip-Bo."
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Carol E. Amirault of Plymouth; two sons, Herbert E. Voss, Jr. of S. Easton and Robert D. Voss of Wareham; two brothers, Donald Voss of Fruitland, FL and Robert Voss of Coral Springs, FL; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, the late David Voss.
His funeral was held Nov. 15 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home. Interment will be at Centre Cemetery, Wareham.
