High school goes Hollywood for prom night

May 13, 2023

All of the stars were out on the night of Saturday, May 13.

The red carpet was laid and the spotlights were shining as Wareham High School students posed for the paparazzi on their way to the most extravagant bash of the year — prom.

This year’s theme, “Red Carpet,” inspired the students to show up in their most glamorous Old Hollywood-inspired looks.

Before heading to prom, which was held at the Cape Club in Falmouth, students showed off their outfits in a promenade fashion show in the high school auditorium, cheered on by their friends and neighbors.

Bold colors, sequins, fancy sunglasses and elegant gowns ruled the night. Addyson Pimental walked the red carpet in chunky red platform shoes. Sage Kidder sported a shimmering black dress and a voluminous 1940s hairdo.

Jocelyn Dupuis’s sequined pale blue dress was inspired by Cinderella — though her friends are quick to point out that, unlike Cinderella, Dupuis doesn’t do many chores.

“I just thought it looked good on me, you know?” Dupuis said.

Rather than a Prince Charming, Dupuis chose to go to prom with her friends.

“I’m just a single nelly,” she said, “living my best life.”

Olivia Vaccaro chose a scarlet gown with floral accents “because no one else would have it.”

“I just like the color blue,” said Mariyah Healy, when asked what inspired her prom night look.

Mariyah’s mother Laurie agrees: “Blue looks good on her.”

Laurie said that it was surreal to escort her daughter to the senior prom.

“Feels like I’m getting old,” she said. “She’s my baby.”

Nathan Wiley and Alex Bumpus were named Prom Royalty. Osheanna Davis, Addyson Pimental, Mattison Peckham, Salim Karam, Brayden Brophy and Alexander Burdick made up the Prom Court.
