High Schoolers help the community recycle

May 18, 2015

The Wareham High Junior Reserve Officer Training Course teamed up with the National Honor Society last Saturday at the Wareham Recycling Center to conduct a community service project.

JROTC uses this type of activity to develop leadership skills in a structured teamwork environment with an ethic of selfless service for the good of the community. Cadets spend time beforehand developing a plan, briefing their subordinates, and understanding the purpose behind recycling prior to the execution.

On Saturday, students helped collect trash around the immediate area, assisted with recycling operations, raked the grounds, and cleared the brush around the perimeter fence line. While conducting these tasks, they interacted with community members who came by the center to recycle.

The following students participated in the project: Zach Bell, Griffin Butler, Josh Childress, Joel D'Olimpia, Kelsey Edwards, Garrett Fillion, Bradley Harunkiewicz, Cory Harunkiewicz, Lucas Jenkins, Matt Ireland, Doug Stark, and Mariah Whitney.
