Hildegard Hood, 85

Hildegard (Bartokos) Hood, 85, of Wareham, died September 8, in the Boston Medical Center, Boston. She was the widow of the late William J. Hood, Jr. and the daughter of the late Anton and Anna Bartokos.

She was born in Vienna, Austria and lived in Dorchester for many years before moving to Wareham in 1995.

Mrs. Hood worked as a cafeteria manager at Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Roxbury for many years before retiring.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church.

Mrs. Hood was an active member and past-president of the Friends of Wareham’s Elderly and a longtime volunteer at the Wareham Council on Aging. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters in Dorchester.

Survivors include her children, Karin Stone and her husband Bob of Marshfield, Robert Hood and his wife Janet of Marshfield, Joseph Hood and his wife Patricia of Carver, Jean Neal and her husband Sean T. of Dunstable, Stephen Hood and his wife Marybeth of Franklin, and Michael Hood and his wife Deborah of Mansfield; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Paul Hood.

Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
