Hip, hip, hooray for the 100th day of school
Time has flown by this school year as 100 days of hard work by Wareham Elementary students came together in the form of a parade.
The annual 100 days march was celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 11 with students gathering up and down the halls. First graders trotted past in brown paper vests adorned with 100 of a certain item.
From 100 '6-7' stickers to 100 pom pons, the pint-sized paraders celebrated the benchmark with their peers. Principal Daniel Sylvestre was posted in the cafetorium high-fiving students as they passed by.
"It's a tradition going back years with every elementary school," he said.
Sylvestre joined the district last summer, celebrating 100 days for the first time with Wareham students. He said he was proud seeing the dozens of smiling faces walking down the halls.
"It's connected to their curriculum to be able to count to 100," he said.
This celebration came later than usual due a few snow days in late January, but that didn't stop the momentum and energy of the students.
"They've worked hard to get to this point," he said. "They learn about making mistakes. They got to make 100 days to make mistakes but we'll use the next 80 days to encourage them and support them. It's great they're out here and showing off their work to the school."
