Historical Society on ice
Artificial-ice machines and electric refrigerators have made the harvesting, storing and selling of natural ice an industry of the past. Come and learn about what life was like in times gone by.
The Wareham Historical Society and special guest speaker Dorothy Thayer, board member and past president of the Middleborough Historical Association, will present a program on "Ice Harvesting" at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 15, at the Old Methodist Meeting House, 495 Main Street, Wareham.
Mrs. Thayer will show a video, originally taken from 8mm movies, of ice harvesting, and she will provide packets of advertisements and other documents about the ice industry. Mrs. Thayer is a retired Middleborough High School social studies teacher, and she created and taught a course on local history.
