Play-Doh, crayons and kids toothpaste were among some of the items collected and delivered this month to children in Cape Cod area hospitals.

Community service based clubs in Wareham collected these items throughout the month of May. The Minot-Forest Elementary School K-Kids and the Wareham High School Key Club teamed up and held school-wide drives for items to contribute to hospitalized children.

The drives accepted donations of toys, games, hygiene items and arts and crafts.

The non-profit organization the clubs used was the Message of Hope Foundation, a group based in Wareham founded by Emi Burke. The foundation gives Happy Hope Bags to children hospitalized because of illness or disability to help distract children from their treatment. So far, over 300,000 children have received the bags through the organization.

According to its website, the Message of Hope Foundation “has inspired hope in thousands of children, achieved through the generous support of numerous national corporate sponsors and dedicated community volunteers.”

On May 11, Key Club President Ruth Gonzalez and Vice President Sara Gallagher delivered the supplies to the Message of Hope Foundation.
