Dec 14, 2016

A woman and her dog escaped a house fire, which began accidentally, in Swifts Beach around 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Kathleen Keeley was outside of her home on 8 Irene Ave. with heavy fire in her kitchen and living room when firefighters arrived. Officials say the cause of the fire was from ashes in a trash barrel.

Three engines, a ladder truck and 20 firefighters from Wareham and Onset Fire Departments put the fire out within a half hour.

Damages are estimated to be well over $70,000, said Wareham Fire Department's Captain Mark Rogers.
