'I beat you by 6 votes': Board cuts loose before reorganizing
Chairing the Board of Selectmen can be “exasperating.” However, it does have its moments, and outgoing Chair Judith Whiteside had one of her own on Tuesday night.
Before board members reorganized, which is tradition after the Town Election, Whiteside stood, pulled on a pale green T-shirt and playfully mocked new Chair Peter Teitelbaum.
The T-shirt read “I beat you by 6 votes.” Even though Whiteside and Teitelbaum weren’t campaigning against each other, the competitive duo made it a contest to see who garnered more votes during the election.
The ribbing didn’t end there. Whiteside then handed Teitelbaum the key to the city, saying, "This isn't the key to the men's room."
All kidding aside, Whiteside thanked residents for their support during her year-long tenure as chair.
“It’s not an easy job, it is time consuming, exasperating and rewarding all at the same time,” she said, congratulating Town Administrator Derek Sullivan and his staff for their leadership.
“I’ve enjoyed renewing old friendships and establishing new ones,” she said. “I want to thank you, Wareham.”
