JBA Summer Basketball League round-up

Wareham's Jason J. Andrade Memorial Summer Basketball League (JBA) began kicked off its 2011 season last week. Here is a recap of the action on the court!

Division 1 Boys

On Tuesday, June 14, the Onujiogu's Grizzlies and Marc Anthony’s Hornets faced off in the Division 1 Boys league. The Grizzlies cruised to victory against the Hornets thanks to 12 points apiece from Durrell Barros and Alberto Sanchez. The final score was Grizzlies 52, Hornets 34.

Elsewhere in the Division 1 Boys league, the Cotter Machine’s Lakers took on J&M Realty’s Thunder on June 14.

The Lakers blew a 27 point lead but held on for the season-opening win. The Lakers' Jacob Freeman had 19 points to pace the team's offense. The Thunder's Michael Labonte scored 31 points to lead the team's furious comeback. The final score was 70-69.

On Saturday, June 18  Onujiogu's Grizzlies took on the Cotter Machine Company’s Lakers.

The Grizzlies got a game-high 28 points from Durrell Barros to top the Lakers. Alberto Sanchez scored 14 points and Alex Spinner added 10 points. Mark Pierrot scored 23 points to lead the Lakers. The team got 11 points from Darrion Santos and 7 points from Jack Zine. The Grizzlies beat the Lakers 56 to 51.

Also on Saturday, J&M Realty’s Thunder defeated Marc Anthony's Hornets 50 to 45. Paris Pires (15 points) and Michael Labonte (12 points) combined to lead the Thunder to the close victory. Derek Guerrier had a strong game for the Hornets, finishing with 27 points.

Division 2 Boys

On June 14, Salerno's Function Hall’s Eagles beat Andrade Construction’s Wildcats 64-15. The Eagles rolled to a big win with Sonny Fernandes scoring 22 points to lead the way. Legend Fernandes led the Wildcats with 7 points.

Also in the playing in the Division 2 Boys league, CDD Constructio’s Friars beat the Narrows Crossing Restaurant’s Huskies 64 to 22.

The Friars got 18 points from Damien Perry and 12 points apiece from Jamual Sims and Gaige Madera to power their way to the win. Dominic Mello scored 11 points for the Huskies.

On Saturday, June 18, Salerno's Function Hall’s Eagles beat Narrows Crossing Restaurant’s Huskies 56 to 33 and CDD Construction’s Friars beat Andrade Construction’s Wildcats 70 to 19.

The Friars got scoring from each player on their roster as they rolled to victory. Damien Perry, Jr. and Gaige Madera each had 16 points and Nick Perry scored 10 points. Legend Fernandes led the Wildcats with 7 points and Jesse Judd scored 6 points.

Division 1 Girls

The girls took to the court on Wednesday, June 15. Nana's Ice Cream Parlor’s Liberty and Bladez Hair Salon’s Sparks when head-to-head in their first game of the season.

Jillian Mello scored a game-high 14 points to pace the Liberty to a season-opening victory. Gabrielle Lefrancois scored 10 points and keyed a late game surge for the Sparks with two 3-pointers. The final score was Nana's Ice Cream Parlor ‘s Liberty, 38 to Bladez Hair Salon’s Sparks, 23.

Also playing in the Division 1 Girls league, Carolee's Comedy Corner Storm took on the BBL Builders Lynx.

Erica Trask's 10 points helped the Storm to their first win of the season. Bailey Colon scored 3 points for the Lynx and Jocelyn Debarros added 2 points. The Storm beat the Lynx 33 to 5.

On June 18, Bladez Hair Salon’s Sparks and BBL Builders Lynx played each other, but the game was forfeit.

Nana's Ice Cream Parlor’s Liberty defeated Carolee's Comedy Corner Storm 14 to 6.

The Liberty got 6 points from Brianna Tavares and 5 points from Brianna Williams to lead the team to the win. The Storm couldn't mount any offense the entire game and saw Erica Trask, Sierra Roberge, and Kali Fernandes score 2 points apiece to account for their point total.
