JBA Summer Basketball League round-up

The Wareham's Jason J. Andrade Memorial Summer Basketball League (JBA) just wrapped up its fifth week of the season. Here is a recap of the action on the court!

Division 1 Girls

On Saturday, July 16 Nana's Ice Cream Parlor Liberty narrowly defeated Carolee's Comedy Corner Storm 21-20.

Brianna Tavares (7 points) hit the game winning free throw with less than 30 seconds left to help the Liberty clinch 1st place and remain undefeated. Brianna Williams led the team with 8 points and Jillian Mello scored 6 points.

The Storm led for most of the game but fell to 3-2 despite 8 points from Michaela McDuffy and 6 points from Sierra Roberge. Laurina Luppino hit a three pointer and Isabella Roberge chipped in 2 points. Anne Marie Luppino hit a foul shot.

The second game between Division 1 Girls teams the Bladez Hair Salon Sparks  and the BBL Builders Lynx was forfeited.

Division 1 Boys

It was another close game on Saturday, July 16 between Division 1 Boys teams the Cotter Machine Company Lakers and Team Onujiogu Grizzlies. The Lakers came out on top beating the Grizzlies 52-49.


Darrion Santos poured in 21 points to lead the Lakers and hand the Grizzlies their first loss of the season. Jack Zine scored 12 points and Mark Pierrot had 11 points. Jacob Freeman scored 6 points and Koby Andrade had 2 points.

 

The Grizzlies got a combined 28 points from Durell Barros and Alberto Sanchez but couldn't hold off the hard-charging Lakers. Joshua Onujiogu had 8 points and Mathieu Griggs scored 6 points. Jovan Thomas hit for 3 points.

Also on Saturday, the J & M Realty Thunder defeated Marc Anthony's Hornets 68-57.

Michael Labonte (18 points) and Ashantay Tavares (15 points) powered the Thunder to victory. Jamahl Silva had 13 points and Markiese Tomkinson scored 10 points. Paris Pires added 8 points and Quincy Aosa had 2 points.

Derek Guerrier had a big game for the winless Hornets by scoring 18 points. Andrew White and Michael McAllister scored 12 points apiece and Xavier Foggies added 10 points.

Division 2 Boys

On Saturday, Salerno's Function Hall Eagles crushed the Narrows Crossing Restaurant Huskies 45-12.

Elijah McAllister scored 14 points and Seth Andrade added 12 points as the Eagles rolled over the Huskies. Sonny Fernandes had 9 point in the game while Justin Lopes added 6 points. Joseph Silvia scored 4 points.


Dominic Mello scored 5 points to lead the Huskies and Tanner Carlson added 4 points. Daniel Minkle Jr. had 2 points and Justin Davis hit a foul shot.


The CDD Construction Friars were victorious over the Andrade Construction Wildcats, winning 56-20 on Saturday.

The Friars improved to 5-0 behind the trio of Jamual Sims, Damien Perry Jr. and Nick Perry. They combined for 29 points in the game. Gaige Madera scored 6 points and David Doucette had 4 points. Kyran Pina and Desmond Powell each scored 2 points.

Jonah Depina scored 7 points to lead the Wildcats. Legend Fernandes added 5 points and Joshua Nawoichik had 4 points. Jesse Judd and Vincent Silva-Pierce each finished with 2 points.
