Joseph (“Joey”) Nichols, 72, of West Wareham, Massachusetts died at home on July 31, 2022.

Joey was born January 3, 1950 to the late Joseph and Margret Nichols. He is survived by his sister, Donna Nichols of Pennsylvania and sister-in-law, Brook Nichols of California. Joey is pre-deceased by his brother, Thomas J. Nichols.

Joey was uncle to Bill, Bruce, Melissa, Justin, Jessica and Jacob. Joey was raised in Haddonfield, NJ and graduated high school in 1968. Joey joined the United States Navy and served during Vietnam. Joe served aboard the USS L.Y. Spear. This ship was a submarine tender and traveled the world accomplishing her mission. Joe also served over 20 months overseas during his tour of service. Joey was a proud and active veteran.

After the Navy, Joey started his own business as a painting contractor. Joey lived and worked in Marin County, CA, Cape May, NJ and Cape Cod, MA. He enjoyed painting all the beautiful Victorian homes.

Joey enjoyed playing volleyball, fishing, having a beer and telling stories on the beach (or as Joe said, “the pond.”) Joey loved volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and made many new friends among his fellow volunteers. He greatly valued the friendships of his many neighbors in West Wareham. Joey Nichols made everyone feel welcome. As per Joey’s wishes a celebration of life BBQ will be held at a future date. Joey’s family requests memorial contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity.
