John J. Gonsalves, Sr. 93
John J. Gonsalves, Sr. 93, of Wareham, died Thursday, June 18 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was the husband of the late Josephine M. (Monteiro) Gonsalves.
Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Margaret (Garcia) and Joseph Gonsalves. A lifelong resident of Wareham, Mr. Gonsalves was a laborer and foreman in the construction industry.
He was a World War II Army veteran and served from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Gonsalves was a member of the Dudley F. Brown V.F.W. Post in Onset.
Survivors include his children, John J. Gonsalves and his wife Yvonne of W. Wareham, Janice Gonsalves of Wareham, Marcia Gonsalves-Weekes and her husband Calvin of Brandon, FL, Paula Gonsalves of Rumford, RI and David Gonsalves and his wife Ellen of Wareham; 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, the late Cynthia Gonsalves.
His funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway on Wed., June 24 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rita’s Church, Front St., Marion at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, June 23 from 5 to 8 p.m.
