Johnny W. Hayes, 83, of Wareham, died peacefully at home on September 10 while surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marilyn A. (White) Hayes and the son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Hostutler) Hayes.  His first wife, Gladys M. (Hultgren) Hayes died in 1991.

He was born in Mannington, WV and lived in Wareham for many years.

Mr. Hayes served in the United States Navy and was a World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War Veteran. After 23 years, and with the rank of Chief Boatswain’s Mate in his service to the military, he was honorably discharged in 1968.

He then worked for Johnson Steel and Wire in Worcester, the Plymouth and Brockton Bus Line in Brockton, the Falmouth School Department, and most recently for the Town of Wareham, where he drove the Dial-A-Ride Bus for the Council on Aging.

He was member of the Oxford Lodge A. F. & A.M., the Worcester Surfcasting Club and the Aptuxcet Post V.F.W. both in Bourne.  He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his widow; 2 sons, James W. Hayes of Leicester and Mark Hayes of FL; 2 daughters, Jacqueline Rogean of Marston Mills and Sharon Hayes of Lee; a stepdaughter, Paula Studer of East Derry, NH; 2 stepsons, Ralph Simkonis of Worcester and Paul Simkonis of FL; 2 sisters, MaryJo Arnett of WV and Jeannie Murtaugh of FL; a brother, James Hayes of WV; a sister in law, Ruth Nordstrom of Charlton and a brother in law, Kenneth Hultgren and his wife S. Ellen of Holden; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

His memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 in the First Congregational Church, 11 Gibbs Ave.
