WAREHAM – Josephine L. Gomes, 88, of Wareham, died Monday, December, 25, 2023 at Tremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wareham.

Born in Carver, she was the daughter of the late Georgina (Pimental) and Nicholas Viera Vasconcelos. She graduated from Wareham High School, and attended Cape Cod Hospital Nursing Program to become a licensed practical nurse. She worked as an LPN at the former Roland Thatcher Nursing Home, now Tremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wareham.

She enjoyed trips to the casino, Tom Brady and the Patriots, and was a fan of Al Pacino in the movie “Scarface.” Josephine also adored her grandchildren and was their biggest cheerleader at their sporting events.

She is survived by her daughters, Amanda Gomes of Onset, Georgina Madeira of W. Wareham and Adeline Elicier of Providence, RI; her sisters, Madeline Silvia, Theresa Vasconcelos and Mary Fernandes all of Wareham; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her son, the late Robert M. Gomes, Jr.

A graveside service will take place on January 8, 2023 at 10:00am in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Tihonet Rd., Wareham.
