Katharine (Boyce) Hinman Morse, 72
Katharine L. (Boyce) Hinman Morse, 72, of Parkwood Beach passed away Jan. 30 at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation at Forestview in Wareham. She was the wife of the late Donald R. Morse and Dr. Fred Hinman. She was born in Boston the youngest of five daughters to the late Joseph C. and Emily (Hughes) Boyce.
Mrs. Morse graduated from Hinsdale Township High School, Illinois in 1962 and Mount Holyoke College in 1966. She began working her extensive career in social work primarily working for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. In 1968, she married Dr. Fred Hinman who was the first Department of Mental Health regional mental health administrator for Southeastern Massachusetts. He passed away in 1980. She received her masters in education from Northeastern University in 1973. Katharine also spent 10 years working for various nursing homes as a social worker.
Kathy and Fred moved to Wareham in 1968 and she became active in many organizations, mostly with the Historical Society. In 2002, she met Donald Morse, and in 2012 they married. Donald passed away in 2013 and since then Kathy has served on various church committees. She had a love for good friends, classical music, plants, flowers and cats. Kathy always had at least one cat living with her most of the time.
Katharine is survived by her niece Celia Gelfman and her step daughter Cynthia Bernier. She was also the sister of Mary Gelfman of Connecticut, Emmy and her husband Tom White of Illinois, Elizabeth and her husband Sam Depiero of Pennsylvania and Fran and her husband Ron Swann of Wisconsin. She was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Her funeral service will be on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 11 Gibbs Ave., Wareham. Visitation with the family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Cremation will follow. A burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Bridgewater, will be private.
