Klueber takes Prudential Committee seat, Moran re-elected to Water Commissioners in Onset Fire District election

Retired Bourne Fire Chief Charles Klueber won a Prudential Committee seat in the only contested race in the annual Onset Fire District election, held Tuesday.

Klueber, who has lived in Onset for more than 40 years and currently serves on the town's Planning Board and Capital Planning Committee, defeated Dianne Vance of Pleasant Avenue for the three-year Prudential Committee term. Klueber garnered 144 votes to Vance's 28.

A total of 178 voters turned out in the election, said Mary McCoy, the district's Clerk/Treasurer.

Klueber, of Onset Avenue, retired after spending 36 years on the Bourne Fire Department -- the last seven of those years as chief. He said he hopes to bring his expertise in managing budgets and his knowledge of water-department workings to the Prudential Committee.

Board of Water Commissioners member James "Barney" Moran ran uncontested for another three-year term on that board. He received 148 votes.

A one-year position of moderator for the district's annual meetings was also on the ballot, though no one took out election papers for the position. Nevertheless, longtime moderator Linwood Gay garnered 54 write-in votes.
