Knute Andersson, 69

Jul 24, 2017

Knute W. Andersson, 69, of Port Orford, Oregon, passed away suddenly July 22 in Wareham. He was the son of the late Knute H. Andersson and Elizabeth T. (Warner) Andersson Leonard.

He was born in Brockton, then grew up and lived in Wareham until he moved to Oregon.

Knute was a proud graduate from Wareham High School and from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. While in high school, he was a track and field star and held several state records. He received a track and field scholarship to Northwestern State University where he received a degree in wildlife management.

While working for Cranberry Growers Service in Wareham for many years, Knute developed a love for growing cranberries. Twenty years ago he became manager for Sea Wind Farms in Langlois, Oregon, until his retirement in 2015.

His other passions included birding, photography, and watching the Red Sox and Celtics play. He also loved his hats! But Knute truly loved watching his grandchildren participate in all sorts of activities including kung fu, baseball, track and field, and dance. During these events, Knute used his passion for photography to chronicle his grandchildren’s lives.

Knute was a loving father to his children, Lori E. Phinney and her husband Sean of Carver, and Amy L. Zeoli and her husband Marc of Plymouth; and a cherished brother to his sister, Priscilla A. Mann and her husband Ben of Dunstable. He was a treasured Pampa/Pimpa to grandchildren Andrew, Nicholas, and Ava Zeoli, and Caroline Phinney. His loving family also includes a niece, Alyce Farnell, her husband Jeff, and their two children, Lincoln and Audrey of North Attleboro; and a nephew, Randi Spinney, of Hiram, Maine. Knute was predeceased by his sister, Alma Jane Spinney, her husband Ralph, and his niece Heather; and also by his good friend, Lois Miller.

We are having a gathering to remember Knute and share stories of his life. Join us Wednesday, July 26 between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. at Makepeace’s Box Mill Hall located at 158 Tihonet Road in Wareham.
