Legion Post wraps up season with big win
Coming out of week four on a three-game losing streak, Wareham Legion Post #220 Baseball Club lost its first five games of its final week of baseball. However, it ended the streak in its final game.
On July 5, Plymouth crushed Post #220 14-4. Offensively Post #220 stayed strong. Sean Conway (Wareham) went 3-for-3 with a run scored. Michael Sullivan (Wareham/Massasoit Community College), Billy Peterson (Wareham), and Tyler Horton (Wareham) each collected a hit.
On July 7 it was a similar scene as Duxbury defeated Post #220 11-5. Post #220 fell to Sandwich on Saturday, July 9 with a score of 8-6. Also on Saturday, Post #220 lost to Norwell 4-2. A 7-5 loss to Marshfield on Saturday, July 9 brought Post #220’s losing streak to eight games.
The Post #220losing streak finally ended - and in a big way - against Dennis on July 10. Post #220 dominated the game, winning with a score of 17-1. Ian Gray (Old Rochester) was solid on the hill. He allowed only one run on five hits and collected five strikeouts along the way.
Offensively, Jimmy Gamache (Tabor) capped off an offensive explosion by blasting a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning.
The three graduates of the program ended their legion baseball career in style, as Michael Sullivan (Wareham/Massasoit Community College) and Nick Gray (Old Rochester) each had an RBI single and scored two runs apiece, while Shea Doonan (Tabor) enjoyed a two-hit, one RBI performance. Sean Conway (Wareham) scored three runs and had two RBIs and Max Gay (Plymouth South) enjoyed a 2-for-4 day with two runs scored and an RBI. Sean Griffith (Bourne) also had a big day, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Ian Searles (Wareham) had an RBI single in the top of the fifth.
