Lillian M. (Spinola) McGruder, born July 10, 1940, passed away on March 6 at home. She grew up in Wareham and attended Wareham Schools. She lived in New York and Boston, returning to Wareham a few years ago.

She was also known for her amazing strength, which led to her nickname “Bully.” Lillian in her younger years loved to play in different women’s softball leagues around the community in which she was good at.  She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children Steven McGruder of New Bedford and  Aaron McGruder of N.Y.; two brothers Anthony (Cushy) Spinola and Joseph Spinola of Wareham; three sisters Gloria Thatcher of Wareham, Eloise Spinola-Depina and Gabriela (Nancy) Spinola of Brockton; Grandchildren Dionna Conaway, Anastacia McGruder, Tyhia Poupart, Orlando Poupart, Aysia Poupart, John Silveira, Jamye Barros and Star McGruder. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family members.

Lillian is predeceased by her parents Alice (Rodrick) Spinola and Vincent Spinola, four sons Richard McGruder, Kevin McGruder, Philip McGruder, and Baxter McGruder. She was the sister of the late Frances Sanchez, Vincent Spinola Jr., Lucy Senna, Gladys Baptiste, Thomas Spinola Sr. and Philip Spinola.

A memorial celebration of her life will be celebrated on Saturday April 6th from 5-8pm at 241 Onset  Ave. Onset, Mass. 02558.
