Local and global missions supported by Christmas Fair

Nov 19, 2016

Seven different projects and missions all over the world benefited from funds raised in just a few hours during an annual Christmas Fair at the Old Methodist Meeting House.

The fair was held on Saturday, hosted by the Women's Society of Christian Service, which has existed for over half a century.

Baby Point and Turning Point are local missions that the society helps. Others from around the world and the country include the Community Chaplaincy Service, Evergreen House, Family Connections, Westview Boys Home and the Pine Crest Appalachian Ministries.

Money was also raised for the "Mom Perry" Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be awarded to a local college student attending or planning to attend school a Christian college or ministry. Last year, the group awarded $1,100.

The scholarship is named after Evelyn Perry, who served as the group's president for 40 years.

"Our main goal here is to try to get the word out to help others," said current president Tracey Westberg. "When we prayed this morning, we prayed that we might just touch one person."

Tables were set up with a picture frame about each project at every table. In the center of the meeting room were more than a dozen gift baskets for raffle. Homemade goods were also on sale.

The society is a non-denominational group of women who meet the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene. For more information, call 508-295-8534.
