A lovely evening for the Onset-Wareham fireworks

Stars, smiley faces, hearts... and all the other, more typical colorful blasts lit up a clear sky in perfect, albeit muggy weather during the annual Onset-Wareham fireworks display on Saturday.
"We've got a few different shells this year," noted Kelly Magni of New Hampshire-based Atlas PyroVision Productions. "They're always coming out with new ones."
The smiley faces and hearts were among those new designs.
"We don't get to pick and choose the shells," Magni explained, saying that though some customers order certain shells that make different designs in the sky, "and they want them shot in a certain order," that was not the case for Saturday's display.
We in Wareham are not so picky, and the element of surprise in Saturday's display certainly didn't disappoint, based on the various "oohs" and "ahhs" that could be heard from the thousands of spectators gathered on Onset Beach, the Bluffs, and the surrounding parks.
A total of 420 individual shots were fired during the show itself, with about the same amount in just the grand finale. Though it doesn't seem it to spectators, there's actually four-and-a-half seconds between each shot during the approximately 26-minute show.
The crew aims to please, however, and Magni notes: "When there's nothing in the sky, four-and-a-half seconds feels like a long time!"
So what's the crew's favorite shells?
"I like them all," said Magni.
Another crew member yelled with a laugh: "I like the last one!"
The Onset-Wareham Fireworks Committee, made up of community volunteers, raised the $20,000 needed to put on the fireworks display.
