Major storm to impact Wareham
Mother nature isn't calling it quits just yet.
A major winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow, strong winds and coastal flooding to Wareham from Sunday, Feb. 22 evening through Monday, Feb. 23 night. Various town buildings such as the Town Hall, Multi Service Center and Library have announced Monday closures,
Wareham Emergency Management is busy in preparation mode as it monitors the storm that could bring up to 18 inches across the SouthCoast. Wareham has shuttered down operations across the town to prepare for hazardous conditions as Town Administrator Derek Sullivan declared a local declaration of a state of emergency.
The town advises residents to refrain from unnecessary travel for public safety. Do not drive over downed wires or tree limbs, if a power line falls on your vehicle remain inside if and call 9-1-1.

Wareham Public Schools will be closed Monday with all before and after school activities postponed or canceled. A parking ban is in effect all across town until further notice.
There will be no on-street parking to give snow removal crews and emergency responders clearance during the storm. Vehicles left in the roadway could be towed or ticketed.
The heaviest snowfall is expected early Monday with rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour possible coupled with winds up to 60 mph, according to emergency management the combination of heavy snow and strong winds could result in power outages and near-blizzard conditions.
Residents are urged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and prepare for potentially severe winter weather conditions. A Wireless Emergency Alert is scheduled for Sunday morning, Feb. 22, 2026, residents can register to receive alerts at wareham.gov to receive the latest safety information.
