A 30-year-old Brighton man accused of beating, robbing and strangling a woman in Wareham’s Rosewood Motel on Sunday, July 29, is being held on $15,000 cash bail after his recent arrest.

Roland Gervais was arrested in Norfolk by two Wareham Police detectives, one State Police detective and a Walpole detective on Friday, Aug. 10, as a result of an “aggressive investigation,” according to officials. He is charged with unarmed robbery, aggravated assault and battery and strangulation.

While the alleged attack, which was “vicious” and ended with serious injuries to the victim, occurred on July 29, police said the incident wasn’t reported until July 31.

Police said Gervais was identified as a suspect after an investigation and a warrant for his arrest was issued on Aug. 8. Officials said detectives from the three agencies met at the Walpole Police Station on Aug. 10 because Gervais was believed to be in the area. He was located soon after on Barnstable Road in Norfolk.

“As a result of the hard work of our detectives, a suspect was identified, a warrant was obtained, and the suspect was placed under arrest facing very serious felony charges,” said Acting Police Chief John Walcek.
