An East Wareham man was charged after bank employees and customers reported a suspicious male wearing a mask and wig near the Rockland Trust and Santander banks at Cranberry Plaza, Wareham Police reported.

James Morrison, 33, was charged on Monday, Sept. 30 with two counts of attempting to commit a crime (unarmed robbery) and two counts of disturbing the peace. 

His demeanor and appearance raised suspicions of the banks’ employees and customers, police said. They subsequently provided a detailed description of the man and the color of the bicycle that he was riding, police said.

A man matching the description was located less than a quarter of a mile away near Cranberry Highway and Tyler Avenue, police said. 

After an investigation that involved the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division, Morrison was placed in custody, police said.

Police Chief Walter Correia praised the alertness of bank employees in contacting the police and preventing a serious crime. Police encouraged the general public to contact the police about any suspicious activity.
