Marilyn B. (Reidy) Burns, 84

Marilyn B. (Reidy) Burns, 84, of Pocasset, died Jan. 31 in the JML Care Center, Falmouth. She was the widow of the late Bernard C. “Red” Burns and the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Susan A. (Morrison) Reidy.

She was born in Lawrence and lived in Wareham and Buzzards Bay for many years before moving to Pocasset.

Mrs. Burns graduated from Wareham High School in 1949 where she played on the basketball team and was a cheerleader.

She enjoyed reading, camping, spending time with her family and attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She received medals from the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for her service. She was a recipient of a Marian Medal while a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Penny Marie Worthen and her late husband William, of Springfield, Virginia, Pamela Smith and her husband Anthony, of Wareham, Maureen Wolfe and her husband Robert, of Collierville, Tennessee, and Kara Burns and her wife Ellen, of Wamego, Kansas; two sons, Bernard C. Burns, Jr. and his wife Lynne of Whitman and Joseph T. Burns and his wife Faith, of Falmouth; a brother, William Reidy, of Westwood; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Visiting hours are from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
