Melanie D. Gonet, 69

Melanie D. Gonet, 69, a longtime resident of Wareham passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, December 26, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Melanie is survived by her daughter, Misty and Wilberto “Berti” Alvarado of Wareham as well as her four granddaughters, Cheyenne, Shaelyn, Jaycee and Julianna. Nana Mel also deeply loved her bonus grandchildren Nick, Selena, Jelani and grand-dog Presley. She is also survived by six siblings, Gail Juzukonis of Oxford, Randy Antonelli of Berkeley, Cindy Brown of Lakeville, Shelley Westgate of Norton, Todd Hopwood of Lakeville and Jack Hopwood of South Middleboro. Melanie had loving in laws and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Roland and Evelyn Hopwood.

Mel devoted her life to her grandchildren as well as anyone she cared for. She loved to cook and bake to share her goodies with everyone. She was very lucky on scratch tickets and enjoyed going to the casino with her loyal friend Marcine on their yearly birthday trip. She will be forever remembered for her feisty and strong personality as well as quick wit and endless jokes.

During her final days she was treated with dignity and cared for by the staff at Tremont Nursing and Rehab. Everyone there became part of her family and she loved and appreciated all.
