Melvin P. Shumway, 88
Melvin P. Shumway, 88, of Wareham died August 30, in Tobey Hospital. He was the widower of the late Eleanor F. (Holmes) Shumway and the son of the late Herbert and Edna (Robinson) Shumway.
He was born in Taunton and lived in Wareham for most of his life.
Mr. Shumway served in the U.S. Army seeing action in France and Germany during WWII.
Mr. Shumway managed The Wareham Drive-In and was a land surveyor for many years before retiring.
Survivors include his daughter, Judith Allison and her husband, Charles of Plymouth; a granddaughter, Rebecca Ladd and her husband, Steve of Mashpee; 4 great-grandchildren, Jared and Samantha Allison of Bourne and Emily and Morgan Ladd of Mashpee. He was predeceased by his grandson, Michael D. Allison and great-granddaughter, Taryn B. Allison.
His funeral service will be private. Visiting hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, September 2 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Relatives and friends are invited.
