Mezza Luna fundraiser brings in bucks for Onset-Wareham fireworks

A fundraiser for the annual Onset-Wareham fireworks display held Thursday at the Mezza Luna Restaurant in Buzzards Bay brought in more than $4,000 for the event.

The event featured live and silent auctions, raffles, and lots of food. Mezza Luna owner E.J. Cubellis donated the venue and the food for the event.

"I'm confident we're going to have enough" money for the display, said Mary Lou Payton of the Onset Bay Association, who co-chairs the committee raising funding for the display. "Much to my relief."

The annual fireworks display, which is scheduled for July 2 with a July 9 rain date, is funded through donations from individuals, businesses, and community organizations. The Onset Bay Association, Wareham Village Association, and Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce.

Late last month, committee members were concerned about raising the more than $8,000 additional needed to fund the fireworks.

Top sponsors of this year's display are Mendon-based ImperialCars.com, which donated $5,000, the Onset Cape Verdean Festival Organization, which gave $2,000, the Town of Wareham Community Events Committee, which donated $1,000, and AJ Marks Jewelers, which gave $500.
