Michael D. Steele, 56, veteran of U.S. Air Force

Michael D. (Crowley) Steele, "Mike," 56, of Onset, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.

Michael was born on October 15, 1953 on Otis Air Force Base in Bourne.  He is the son of Mary (Steele) Crowley, of Onset, and the late James A. Crowley. Mike and his family lived in Madrid, Spain for seven years and traveled throughout Europe extensively. He is a 1971 graduate of Sacred Heart High School, in Kingston.

Following high school, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force and graduated with honors from the Para-Rescue Training Program. Mike had specialized training in Para-Rescue emergency-medical training, SCUBA diving, airborne, survival and recovery. Mike trained with Navy Seals and the Army Paratroopers, Medical Corps, and Helicopter Command. He was assigned duty at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Michael most recently worked as a manager for Guaranteed Fresh Produce Company, of Hyannis. In addition to his mother, Mike is survived by his former wife Lisa Phillips; his two daughters, Miranda and Hannah Steele, of IL; two sons, Samuel and his wife Joscelyn, of Utah, and Jared Steele, of IL. He is the grandfather of Samantha and the brother of Janet Brownell, of Montana, Patrick Crowley, of West Wareham, John Crowley, of Montana, and he is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is the brother of the late Lt. James A. Crowley, U.S. Army.

Michael's Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, August 17, at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary's Star of the Sea Church (on the corner of Onset Bay Lane and Onset Avenue), in Onset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There will be no visiting hours. Burial with military honors will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery Bourne.
