Middle School award winners are well-rounded bunch

Mar 1, 2023

An artist, an athlete, a helper and an optimist make up Wareham Middle School’s February 2023 student award winners.

Fifth grader Maddyx Gomes-Wise, sixth grader Lily Garcia and seventh grader Jordyn Elwood were named Students of the Month.

As always, teachers gave anonymous comments about the students.

One of Maddyx’s teachers called him “a thoughtful and dedicated artist.”

“He works well with his peers and sees assignments through to completion,” the teacher continued. “Great job Maddyx!”

“Lily has a yearning to always learn more,” one of her teachers said. “She always goes that extra mile and shows her exemplary student status by helping others and wanting them to be their best. Lily is a perfect example of what we pride ourselves on here at WMS.”

“Jordyn is an incredibly well rounded student athlete,” one of her teachers said. “She gives 100% on and off the court. Her leadership shines in the classroom. I can't wait to see the great things that she will accomplish!”

Landyn Lopes won the February 2023 Scotty Monteiro Jr. Award.

The “Scotty Award,” named after a Wareham man who was murdered in 2009, is given by the Foundation of the same name. Its stated aim is to “stop the violence” by highlighting outstanding youth.

"Landyn comes to school everyday with a smile on his face and a positive attitude,” a statement from the Middle School read. “He is always conscientious, kind and respectful to adults and peers."
